Worst Product and Worst Service of the Year Awards 2009

Every year, Industry/Trade Associations announce awards for the best performers of the year, both for their staff and their products. CGSI has no grievance against such practices, but receives hundreds of complaints from people in all walks of life about products and services that are sometimes plain con tricks or even harmful to the individuals.

There are hundreds of gizmos in the market which promise the consumer that he would lose weight in a few days, save substantial sums of money on electric bills, offer special discounts on purchases and the like. There are also tall promises of services which could change one’s life like liposuction, massage services, get-rich-quick money schemes and the like, which do not deliver what they promise, even partially. Consumers realize only after some time that they have been taken for a ride but are averse to admit that they have been fooled for fear of ridicule and bruising their own egos.

CGSI conducted a survey in 2008 in which consumers voted for the product/service which they feel has promised a lot, but delivered little. Based on this survey the `Worst Product’ and `Worst Service’ Awards 2008 were announced. It gave the average consumer the chance to decide which is the biggest con trick in the game – as decided by the consumers themselves.

CGSI now calls for nominations for the Worst Product and Worst Services Awards 2009.

On receiving the nominations, CGSI will classify them company-wise and sector-wise, and put them up before a panel of three eminent citizens of Mumbai for their final opinion on deciding the winner of the Award. In case it is felt necessary, the Judges may call the voting consumer to demonstrate the working of the product/service which he has nominated, to convince them that the allegation against the same is genuine.

The `Worst Product’ and `Worst Service’ of the Year Awards are by no means a derogatory process to run down industry and/or service providers. It is just a means of allowing the consumer to vent his grievances against products/services which promise much and deliver little. It is also a `Wake Up Call’ to industry and/or service providers to improve both their marketing as well as product profiles to give the consumers a just deal.

The last date for receipt of nominations is 15th January 2010.
